The Extraordinary ET Encounter of Horst Raps

In 1959, Horst Raps encountered a humanoid pilot from the Alpha Centauri system, beginning a series of extraordinary journeys aboard a technologically advanced spacecraft. During these trips, the extraterrestrials provided a stern warning about the dangers of nuclear warfare, showcasing a mutated planet as a grim example of atomic devastation. Raps toured their utopian world, characterized by telepathic communication, robotic labor, and a moneyless society focused on spiritual growth. The visitors revealed that they maintain a massive space station within our solar system to monitor Earth’s evolutionary progress. Ultimately, the sources describe a mission of surveillance and guidance by beings who claim deep ancestral ties to human history.

Introduction

Imagine walking through a quiet forest in Bavaria, the air crisp after a long winter, only to find yourself face-to-face with a visitor from another star system. This isn’t the plot of a science fiction novel, but the detailed account of Horst Raps, a man born in 1929 who experienced a series of life-altering events in the spring of 1959. At the time, Raps was 26 years old and recovering from pneumonia. His doctor had suggested he spend as much time as possible in the fresh air, which led to his frequent evening walks in the woods near his home. Little did he know that a simple after-dinner stroll on March 29, 1959, would change his understanding of the universe forever.

The First Meeting In The Forest

As Raps left the last houses of his town behind and headed toward a favorite forest clearing around 8:00 pm, he noticed a strange light in the sky about 1,000 meters up. At first, he assumed it was a meteor, but the object’s behavior quickly proved otherwise. It didn’t fall in a straight line; instead, it moved in curves and eventually came to a dead stop. The object was shaped like an ellipse and pulsed with a rapid succession of colors, shifting from orange to phosphorous green, then white, and finally a brilliant blue-white.

Driven by a mix of curiosity and uncertainty, Raps ran toward the spot where he thought the object had landed. As he approached the clearing, he heard a soft, low humming sound, similar to the vibration of telegraph wires. The closer he got, the more physical the encounter became; his legs felt heavy, as if they were made of lead, and his knees grew weak. About ten meters away, he saw the craft. It was a bluish or purple iridescent object floating nearly a meter above the ground, seemingly supported by “bundled rays” of light. As he watched, the craft lowered itself further, and the flashing colors settled into steady white beams.

Suddenly, doors opened on both sides of the craft and a stepladder extended. A figure stepped out—a tall, slim person who looked remarkably human. He wore a one-piece suit that shimmered with the colors of a rainbow. To Raps’ complete shock, the stranger spoke to him in German. However, the pilot explained that they weren’t actually speaking in the traditional sense. Instead, they were communicating via the mind, exchanging thoughts like “rays of light”.

A Message For Humanity

The visitor’s reason for being there was serious: he had come to provide a warning about the dangers facing Earth. He told Raps that humanity needed to put its own world in order and establish peace and brotherhood before looking for other worlds. In the visitor’s world, there was no hatred, envy, or greed—only peace. Before leaving, the pilot invited Raps to return to the same spot in three days. As the meeting ended, the craft rose vertically into the air like a bullet and vanished into the sky.

True to his word, Raps returned to the clearing on April 1, 1959. After a 15-minute wait, the colorful light reappeared and the craft landed exactly where it had before. This time, the pilot didn’t step out but stayed inside, waving for Raps to enter. Despite a natural feeling of panic and a bit of “abdominal pain” caused by fear, Raps forced himself to climb the stairs. The stranger, sensing his distress, smiled and reassured him that he was safe.

Inside The Flying Object

The interior of the ship was unlike anything Raps had ever seen. The room was round, about three meters high, and appeared to be made entirely of a glass-like material. A circular catwalk ran along the inside, and there was a massive screen—about five meters in diameter—that looked like a giant television. In the “pulpit” of the ship, Raps met two more people, a man and a woman, whom his companion referred to as “brother and sister”. The chairs and appliances in the room were also made of that strange, vitreous material.

As they prepared for flight, the atmosphere changed. The lights dimmed, and white dots began to flit across the giant screen, resembling a view through a massive telescope. His companion pointed out a bright dot and told him it was the Sun. They were already leaving the star system behind.

The Leap To Alpha Centauri

The journey to the Alpha Centauri system involved physical sensations that were difficult to describe. As they approached their destination, the screen went dark and Raps felt as though he couldn’t think clearly. His surroundings became distorted, like looking through moving water, and he felt a massive pressure on his body. It felt as though his skin and flesh were expanding “colossally,” and he had the sensation of falling apart.

Once the pressure eased, his thoughts returned to normal and the view outside became clear again. On the screen was a cluster of lights, with one particularly large point representing his companion’s home planet. Raps described a feeling of “unspeakable exultation” as he gazed at the stars and felt the profound silence of space.

Landing On Another World

The ship headed toward a landing area that looked like it had been cast from a single piece of metal or ore. It was perfectly mirror-smooth. Once they landed, Raps and his companions stepped out onto the surface and boarded a small, floating “pulpit-like” object that transported them about 400 meters to a massive dome-shaped building.

One of the first things Raps noticed was the gravity. His companion warned him to move carefully because the planet’s gravitational pull was much lower than Earth’s. At one point, Raps moved too quickly and actually started to float away from the ground. His companions had to grab his legs and pull him back down. He described the sensation of being light as feeling like a balloon that naturally wants to move upward, making every step feel like he was “running on feathers”.

Cities Of Parks And Cubes

The infrastructure of this world was equally fascinating. Inside the dome, people moved on escalators and “platform-walks”. Raps noticed a diverse range of people, some of whom looked like they could be from China or Japan. To get around, they used a subway-like system located about 20 feet underground. The train cars had armchair seating made of the same glass-like material seen on the spaceship. Screens on the walls displayed characters that reminded Raps of Chinese font.

When they emerged at street level, Raps didn’t find a city of concrete and steel. Instead, he found a wild, park-like terrain filled with trees, shrubs, and star-shaped flower arrangements that gave off an “indescribable aromatic scent”. The buildings were cube-shaped and came in various colors. They eventually arrived at a large white building, which Raps was told belonged to their “Prince” or chief.

The Philosophy Of The “Prince”

The meeting with the leader was formal but friendly. There were no handshakes, only bows and smiles. The room featured tall pillars made of a material resembling rock crystal and a semicircular table with a large vitreous armchair for the Chief. Through his companion’s translation, the Chief delivered a sobering message about the state of humanity.

He explained that Earthlings are “mentally and technically very backward” and lack peace because of their own disregard for one another. He compared the growth of a human race to a raw gemstone that must go through many stages of processing before it becomes glorious. According to the Chief, the constant cycle of wars on Earth is the primary hindrance to “civilized ascension”. He promised that they would help Earth, but only if humans made an earnest effort to change themselves for the better.

A Society Without Labor Or Money

As Raps toured the planet, he learned more about how their society functioned. He was taken to an underground manufacturing plant located in a massive rock vault. Inside were machines larger than houses, with sliding belts and robot-like mechanisms in human form doing all the work. The actual people on the planet didn’t “work” in the Earthly sense; their job was simply to monitor these robots.

This automation meant that their economic structure was entirely different from ours. There was no money on the planet. Everything was freely available to everyone. If someone needed clothes or supplies, they simply went to a distribution center and took what was necessary. Because all basic needs were met, Raps was told that crimes like those on Earth were impossible.

Even their diet was high-tech. Raps was shown a machine that produced nutritional tablets about the size of a 50-pfennig coin. He tried two of them—one tasted like cocoa and the other like vegetables. After eating them, he felt completely full, as if he had eaten a large meal, and experienced a surge of physical and spiritual energy.

Unique Social Customs

Raps noticed a few things that seemed very strange by Earthly standards. For one, he didn’t see any children running around the cities. He was told that children are raised in educational centers until they reach maturity. Most of their education is handled by highly qualified robots designed with human traits, though humans do provide some individual guidance.

When it came to relationships, their customs were also different. They did not practice marriage as we do on Earth. In fact, they viewed the Earthly concept of a marriage covenant as an “obstructive hindrance” to their lives. Raps found it difficult to fully understand their psyche, noting that they seemed entirely dedicated to social issues and lived very happy lives with very few obligations.

The Planet Of Horror: A Warning Of Nuclear Ruin

During a third experience around April 8, 1959, Raps was taken on a more grim excursion. His companions wanted to show him what happens when a civilization plays with forces it cannot control. They flew to a neighboring planet that had once been home to a highly cultivated human race.

This world was now a “planet of horror”. The inhabitants had manipulated nuclear forces and lost control, leading to a global catastrophe. Through the ship’s magnification disc, Raps saw a world of crumpled, degenerated vegetation and “silent beings” that were once human. These survivors had green skin and heads that seemed to be fused to their bodies without necks. He saw creatures that looked like five-meter-long crocodiles with glowing, shabby armor. The survivors lived in hollowed-out housing, their culture completely destroyed, and they were constantly fighting despite their broken limbs.

The planet was so radioactive that the visitors couldn’t even make contact with the beings. This serves as a “big warning” for Earth. The companions explained that nuclear weapons could cause a planet to fall out of its orbit, potentially leading to collisions with other planets and destabilizing an entire solar system.

The Hidden History Of Earth And The Monitors

In his final reported encounter around April 18, 1959, Raps was taken to a massive space station located about twice the distance between the Earth and the Moon. This station was a giant ball, roughly two kilometers in diameter. It served as an experimental base where the Centaurs were cross-breeding Earth plants with those from Alpha Centauri. They found that mixing the two created flowers that were much larger and richer in color and scent.

It was here that Raps learned the surprising history of our solar system. He was told that the Centaurs had discovered remnants of a culture on Mars that looked very similar to ancient China. Even more shocking was the story of Atlantis. According to his hosts, the Atlanteans were highly advanced humans who lived on Earth thousands of years ago. They eventually fled Earth because they feared the planet was undergoing “unfavorable changes” following a failed experiment with one of Earth’s former moons.

The Atlanteans relocated to a planet in the Alpha Centauri system and made it habitable. Over time, they joined the “Imperium of the United Planet Alpha Centauri”. These Atlanteans are reportedly the ones who now act as “Monitors” for Earth. They have been closely watching our planet since the first atomic bomb was detonated, sending survey ships to keep tabs on our development.

Waiting For The Right Time

According to what Raps was told, the “Association of the Empire” (or intergalactic confederation) is waiting for a specific time to make official contact with humanity. This will only happen when they are convinced that humans are “worthy” to be taken into their association. Until then, they remain in the shadows, monitoring our progress and our mistakes.

Raps’ experiences lasted over several weeks, with trips taking anywhere from a few hours to nearly nine hours. He left behind a legacy of these accounts, which include drawings of the floating ships and descriptions of a world where robots do the chores, food comes in tablets, and the goal of life is spiritual and social advancement rather than greed. Whether viewed as a literal travelogue or a philosophical warning, the story of Horst Raps remains one of the most detailed and unique contact cases of the mid-20th century.

A debt of gratitude to Rune Overby for the English translation of this extremely important contact case which as of today in 2026 has been nearly disappeared off the internet. Rune’s site can be found here detailing many other amazing contact cases.
